A Vision Fulfilled
The story of Standard English School, Saipung is one of a long-awaited vision finally coming to life.
During the mid-1990s, a proposal was first presented at the General Assembly of the Independent Church of India to establish a Lower Primary School in Saipung, Meghalaya. Though the idea was well received, it did not materialize at that time. The vision remained, quietly waiting for the right moment.
That moment came many years later.
By 2022, the need for a school in Saipung had become increasingly urgent. Recognizing this, the Executive Council directed the Education Board to conduct a survey regarding the feasibility of establishing a school in the area. The survey was carried out in August 2022, and its findings were submitted to the Council.
Through its resolution 164/9 (2022), the Executive Council accepted the report and gave its approval to establish the school.
Acting on this, the Education Board resolved to begin a school offering classes up to Class III starting from the 2023 academic session. Teachers were duly recruited and appointed in preparation for the opening.
A historic milestone was reached on January 14, 2023, when the school was formally inaugurated by Rev. Lalneikhup Hmar, Secretary of the Education Department, ICI. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Saipung Darbar, the local MDC, delegates from the Meghalaya East Presbytery, and the ICI Central Choir, making it a truly memorable and joyous event for the community.
Growth followed swiftly.
Within just a few months, new school buildings were constructed and completed. A hostel facility was also established soon after, further strengthening the school’s capacity to serve students from surrounding areas.
Today, Standard English School, Saipung stands as a vibrant and growing institution. The number of students continues to increase each year, reflecting the trust and confidence of the community. Over time, essential developments such as proper fencing and infrastructure improvements have further enhanced the learning environment.
At present, the school offers classes from Nursery to Class VII, with a strong commitment to continued growth and excellence.
